When you are planning your Hadzabe visit it is important to remember that the activities start very, very early in the morning: you will leave your lodge around 05.00 in the morning. So the only realistic way to visit is by overnighting in the region. You could stay in Karatu and decide to miss out on the morning walk/hunt: but seeing as this is the best part of your visit I would not recommend that. There are still not too many options in the region. My personal favourite is Ziwani Lodge: a great place to relax after your morning visit and enjoy the vieuws over the lake.
The luxury choice in the surroundings. Amazing building style, friendly staff, fantastic food & a pool overlooking the lake. If your budget allows this is definitely the place to stay.
The original – the first place to stay targeted towards foreign travellers. The husband/wife team who run the camp are extremely knowledgeable about the surroundings.
Run by the successful team behind the solid value-for-money/midrange properties in Karatu: Country Lodge and Bougainville. It doesn’t break the bank quite as much like Ziwani and Kisima – but misses some of the flair. A great midrange place to stay when you are visiting the Hadzbe.
Tidy, small campsite – with tents for rent for people who do not carry their own gear. Meals can also be provided. Best to book in advance when you decide to camp when you are visiting the Hadzabe.
